Old pines #2

The candelabra style is dominent. I bet it's fungi and wind that takes out the top.
This fellow didn't make it, but he isn't going away yet. Look at that facinating spiralling growth.

You can see the spiralling growth particularly good on these branches. I don't know why this happens but it must be caused by uneven growth.

Old pines #1

In begining of october I went hunting close to the national park called Trollheimen , it means 'Home of the Trolls'.
As usual I went home with little game and a bunch of nice pictures of amazing trees.
We lunched by this old pine. It was so massive! Look how fat that trunk is. There are many pines like this i the area. This is just below the tree line.
Details of some deadwood. Could probably spent the entire week counting the rings.

This is a perfect nebari. Oh, wait... I see a crossing root! I scanned the area for anything to bring home, but the conditions are so though that its make or breake up here. There are no small trees worth digging up.

Siberian maple - acer ginnala

I bought this amur maple two years ago. Last year it was heavily attacked by mildew and didn't grow very much. It was also standing in heavy soil. This year it was repotted into very open soil and I let it grow freely to gain strength. Next year I'll cut it back hard and rebuild the branches.
Two weeks ago. Not the best picture, sorry.

Linden

I brought this tree with me from England this summer. David Prescott has grown it from a seedling for the past 10 years. It's total age is about 15 years.

It has lost almost all its leaves now, we've already had a couple of frost nights just below zero

I decicded to shape the tree. I cut back the branches and cut off a few branches that were too crowded and wired the whole tre. This is the result. There are too few branches on the lower part of the left side but there are a couple of buds in the right positions so I hope they start to grow next spring so I can form some new branches there.
It will be repotted to a proper pot next spring.

Another Lonicera part 2

This is how the tre looks now. I will cut back many of the branches more nect spring when I see where they bud out. here are lots of buds all over the branches so ramification should increase a lot next year.
When I look at the pics it's a little top heavy, but this will be corrected in time

Lonicera update

This tree was collected in spring of 2007. I have shown it several times on my blog before. Today I decided to take it one step further.
This is how it looked before the work.

Here it is after I cut back the branches and wired it. There are lots of buds all along the branches so the ramification will increase a lot next year.
