The tree was growing vigorously in 2006 and in August I decided to take a look at the roots to see if I could reduce the root ball. It was about twice the size it needs to be to get into a proper sized pot. The tree is growing in a wooden box and insted of taking the tree out of the box, I simply knocked off one of the sides of the box and started to remove soil from that side. It turned out that there was a very thick root there and not much hair roots at all so I decided it was safe to remove it. With such a big root one needs big tools so I got my chain saw and voila, the root is gone.
I counted the anual rings on the root and there was 115 rings, so it's defenetly an old tree.
After the operation I simly cut off part of the box and made it smaller.
