Large hawthorn

I am pretty sure this is a hawthorn of some sort. I was dug up from a garden this spring. The tree appeared dead three years a go and the owner cut it back har to see if it could be forced to sprout. It did and grew pretty good until I collected it.
There were very few roots on it and all the roots on the rightside were dead.

Now leavs have appeared, but I am not sure if it thrives or just living on stored energy.
It's big, 90 cm without the box.
