This Yew (Taxus X media 'Farmen' ) was dug out from a nursery today. It was cut back hard. More than 90 % of the foliage was removed and I teased out as much of the heavy clay soil as I deared. It was about 1 meter tall and 2 meters wide before I started the mutilation. I'm not sure if it will tolerate this treatment, but I consider it an experiment. If it does well, I will get more trees from the same growing field. It does have many fine hair roots. I will put it in the shade until it starts growing again. All the remaining foliage was growing in deep shade from the branches I have now cut off and they will be very susceptable to sun burn. Progress will be reported.
