The big sleep - winter storage

Two weeks ago I finally got around to stash away the rest of my trees. The indoor trees stayed out to end of october. The rest where still standing on the benches. This is how I protect my trees for the winter.
All the conifers go up against the wall on the sheltered side of the house where they stay out of the wind and only get the sun in the afternoon.
Pines and larch. I shovel snow over the pots to insulate. If I have time I brush of the snow, if not it's also fine to leave it.
The decidious trees goes into the kids play house. I ususally secures it with some boards.
A picture tells a thousand words. This one about 500... Anyway, I put the trees closely together and shovel snow over them to insulate and watering when the temperature rises. Last year I probably watered them 3-4 times during the winter.
All the trees are planted in very open substrate so the frost is no problem. It's the drying winds that kills them or takes the top of.

Inspiration

I wish I was a rich man so I could get my hands on some decent rawmaterial like the stuff Auer Othmar got.
Check out the pictures from the blog of Bonsai Mike
Actually all the pictures are stunning.
